Abuja Carnival 2009: Three days to go
Wednesday, 18 November 2009 16:58
YES, many people would be asking similar questions, following the bottleneck that characterised the previous events. But for the seriousness and proactiveness displayed by the 2009 Abuja Carnival Director-General, Professor Rasaki Ojo Bakare, at revisiting the initial carnival routine of taking the carnival to where the people live, there is hope that something meaningful will come out of this year's carnival.
However, by virtue of the promise and preparations being made by Prof. Bakare to restore the pride of the carnival, there are signals from participating states to make the event restore the spirit of FESTAC ‘77, and, at the same time, project the different cultural norms, values, pride and heritage of the Nigeria people.
Also, one good thing about the carnival and festival is the level of awareness and publicity given to the programme that would attract and also refresh the visitors, tourists and states' contigents' minds.
However, Dance Rasaki, as the carnival DG is being referred to, has promised to use all his corporate and media machineries to make the 2009 Abuja Carnival the father of all carnivals even with the short period it has for preparations.
The event is just three days to go and one could ask if there would really be any fun.
But the professor, who is a professional in the management, marketing, coordination and implementation of festivals and carnival events all over the world, has promised to make this year's event a carnival of the people, by the people and for the people.
So, Nigerians are waiting to join in the glamour and thrills on offer from Saturday, November 21 to 24, 2009.
