Intel launches Atom platform for smartphone

IN further acknowledgement of Nigeria ’s increasing importance as a world-class IT market, three of the country’s leading resellers of IT products took home five of 12 Redington IT Africa (RITA) awards.

Nigerian distributors, Park ‘n’ Shop, Ajatech Computers Limited, and Systemtech Services Limited shared between them the five awards,  after beating off fierce competition from their counterparts in other African countries at RITA’s inaugural event held in Dubai, recently.

The initiative is the first of its kind for the African continent, and has been formed to encourage Redington’s IT partners to further spread the company’s footprint across the region.

Redington Africa is the leading IT distributor and supply chain systems provider and boasts of an impressive client portfolio including Acer, Canon, HP, IBM, Samsung, Toshiba, and Western Digital, among others.

While Ajatech Computer won the “Best IT Distributor for West Africa ” and “Outstanding Sales in the HP Supplies Business” awards, Systemtech Services was recognised for its outstanding performance in the HP PSG Commercial Business.

Also, Park N Shop scooped two of the hotly contested awards, “HP PSG Consumer Business” and “Outstanding Performance in Acer Business”.

According to an email from Redington, during the event, the company also underlined its commitment to consolidate its operations on the African continent, describing it as a strategic market for exponential growth for 2010.

In his address at the RITA Awards, Mr. Raj Shankar, Managing Director for Redington Gulf , said: “Emerging markets in Africa will continue to drive our expansion strategy due to the strong demand for quality IT products and economies keen to implement the most sophisticated solutions.”

“Redington has been steadily growing its presence in the continent where we have an in-country infrastructure of seven offices, four offices and five service centres.”

He added Redington’s firm belief that Africa has the DNA to become the next important market for major international IT players,” he added.

The Redington IT Africa 2010 (RITA) awards are the first of its kind to honour partners and distributors in Africa , recognising their outstanding achievements in expanding the Redington footprint in their markets.

More than 60 leading channel IT partners from 12 countries from Africa were represented at the awards function which took place in Dubai .
