Police release 44 Jos suspects

ShareThe police in Jos yesterday released the 44 persons arrested at Riyom Local Government of Plateau State on Saturday. After a thorough search  of the men and the trailer in which they were travelling, it was discovered that the truck was filled with bags of cement and cans of palm oil.

Most of the passengers of the truck were mainly youths between the ages of 18 to 35. The police used metal detectors and mine sweepers to certify the content in the cement bags. They also found 11 knives and two hammers.

One of the female passengers in the vehicle who gave her name as Mrs Ijeoma Stanley said she and the other women boarded the truck from Port-Harcourt and that they were going to Kano to sell palm oil.

She said the cement bags were already in the truck before they boarded it. She said the youths joined them at Okigwe in Imo state. The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the state Femi Oyeleye confirmed to our correspondent that the men had had been released.
