PDP guber aspirant arrested for arms possession

ShareNo fewer than 47 persons, including a gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State and two monarchs were Thursday paraded for various alleged offences by the state’s police command.

 

The state’s Acting Commissioner of Police, Magaji Abdullahi said they were arrested for offences ranging from possession of arms, robbery and murder.

They included a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the PDP, Michael Abdullahi, an Ibadan- based school proprietor and two monarchs from Ejule in Ofu Local Government Area; the Ogoyi of Ejule and the acting Onu of Ejule, Akwu Obaje and Abdul Aye Ali respectively as well as a councilor in Dekina Local Government, Mr Moses Ani.

According to the CP, the governorship aspirant was caught with a locally made pistol, two live bullets and a jack knife at a police check point in Ejule, but the aspirant claimed that the gun belonged to the councilor who is a disabled.

The monarchs with other 19 suspects were said to have been arrested and accused of complicity in the killing of three persons in an unabated chieftaincy dispute in their area with three guns found on them.

Some youths, the CP said, were also arrested along Obangede-Ihima area of Okene for robbery with charms, weapons and some quantity of Indian hemp.

The police boss said all the suspects will soon be charged to court, stressing that the Inspector General of Police [IGP] had directed all state commissioners to get rid of bad politicians and people ahead the 2011 general elections.
