2011: Jang warns against rigging

ShareGovernor of Plateau State Jonah David Jang has warned against rigging in the forthcoming general elections in the state, saying his administration would not tolerate it. Speaking at the 2010 Vwang annual cultural festival of the Mupun people in Lankan, Panshin Local Government Area of the state, Jang said he would make sure every vote cast at the next elections counts. The governor who called on various ethnics groups in the state to respect one another, implored security agencies to be on the alert, saying all forms of electoral malpractices must be avoided in the next general elections. Governor Jang also warned politicians against using thugs. He noted that crises in the state had posed a great challenge to the peaceful co-existence of the Plateau people, but urged the people to consider the challenge as a wake-up call to defend the state.‘‘ The time has come for us as a people to discard our differences and stand up for Plateau State as it is greater than any individual or group,’’ he said.
Those honoured with traditional titles at the event include former Governor of Plateau State Chief Joshua Dariye, Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly, Istifanus Mwansat, Prof. Dakum Shown, Dr. Patrick Dakum, Robert Table, former Chairman of the PDP in Plateau, Maichibi Vwarji, SimonTangni, Ardiyel Dafwur and Casmir Kumtap.
