Jomathan chairs ECOWAS summit in Cape Verde

SharePresident Goodluck Jonathan will chair the meeting of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government that will adopt the West African Industrial Policy during their 38th ordinary summit today in Sal Island, Cape Verde.
The policy and action plan aim atsignificantly improving the living standard of the citizens of the region by 2030.
Also, a special summit of ECOWAS-Brazil will be held tomorrow July 3, 2010 to enhance trade relationship between West African and Brazil as well as how to tackle flow of drugs from Europe and America to the region.
The mid-year summit in Cape Verde is the first to be hosted by a Portuguese-speaking Member State and summit will also consider the 2010 interim report of the President of the ECOWAS Commission.
The ECOWAS leaders will consider the report of the 28th meeting of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council, which met at the ministerial level on 7th and 8th June 2010 in Abuja.
New President of the ECOWAS Commission Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, who took over from Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas in March 2010, will also be sworn in during the summit.
