ShareThe Arewa Youth Development Foundation which was persuaded to drop its
planned procession to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, venue of the Northern
Governors’ meeting instead opted to present a written demand for zoning
to be respected by the ruling PDP.
On Tuesday, leaders of the group met with Police commissioner Tambari
Yabo Muhammad for several hours, when they sought for police permit to
stage the procession of 20,000 protesters which would have taken off
from 11 different positions within Kaduna metropolis. However, the
police advised them against it, because of the volatile nature of
Kaduna.
An agreement was reached with the youth leaders to nominate
five of their leaders who will present their case to the northern
governors.
Around 11 am, the police commissioner led the nominees to
the Government House Kaduna, venue of the Northern Governors’ Forum
meeting. After the opening remarks by Dr Babangida Aliyu, governor of
Niger state, the delegates were ushered into the closed door meeting.
In
a letter addressed to the chairman of the forum, the Arewa Youths
restated their support for zoning, saying it should be adhered to the
latter.
