Tanko Yakasai: It is a good decision Tanko Yakasai: It is a good decision

ShareNorthern elder Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has commended the maturity
demonstrated by northern governors in reaching their decision on zoning
at their meeting in Kaduna yesterday.
Speaking when he asked to comment on outcome of yesterday’s meeting of
northern governors in Kaduna, Yakasai said the governors’ decision on
zoning showed that they were not prepared to betray the confidence
reposed on them by their people.
He said the governors were saying
the obvious when they clearly said President Goodluck Jonathan was
entitled to contest the election in 2011 like any other Nigerian since
the country’s constitution guarantees the right for any eligible
Nigerian to contest.
Yakasai, however, faulted the decision of the
south-south endorsing President Jonathan to contest the presidency in
2011, saying their stand was like putting the cart before the horse.
One
zone in the south alone, according to him, could not arrogate power to
itself to zone the presidency to a particular section of the country
without the support of the other zones.
“So to single out one person
as your candidate is just like crossing the bridge before reaching it.
This is because PDP has not zoned the presidency to the south-south in
the first place”, he said.
