ShareFounder of Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), Frederick Fasheun, has suggested a state pardon for the convicted former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to late Head of State, Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha in order to halt discord and tension that may be generated as a result of the death sentence.
Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos High Court had in her verdict on Monday passed a death sentence on Al-Mustapha for conspiring with others to kill Kudirat Abiola, wife of the late presidential candidate, Moshod Abiola.
Al-Mustapha had on Tuesday appealed against the verdict. But speaking in Lagos yesterday, Fasheun said the judgment was political.
“To me this is political judgment. I can understand why a fellow citizen would be incarcerated for close to 13 years without bail and the next thing we heard was that he has been sentenced to death. To me this is unfair and sentimental,” he said
