Tuesday, 09 March 2010 16:23
Last Saturday, the Agip Hall of the MUSON Centre was filled to the brim as many Comedy faithful turned out in large number to celebrate love and have fun, the February edition of the monthly comedy show Stand Up Nigeria tagged: Val Special edition, to celebrate the 2010 St Valetines’ Day .
The show began with a wonderful performance by Aje Baba, an upcoming comedian. His performance paved the way for the host of the night, the comedienne, Lepacious Bose.
According to Bunmi Davies, the producer of the show, said to give the voice to the Upcoming comedians was one of the reasons Stand Up Nigeria was set up.
Davies said the show, which clocked one year in November last year, emerged from the desire of his company Afrotainment to do something unique following rave reviews of its short plays which were always infused with comedy. “We did not set out to do comedy. We used to do plays on HIV/Aids, Children’s Day, Valentine’s Day and so on.
But I was always infusing humour in my works and discovered that we were narrowing towards comedy. Then I saw a vacuum and decided to set up Stand Up Nigeria to assist budding comedians to get recognition.”
Lepacious Bose gave good account of herself as a comedienne to be reckon with in the comedy industry.
It is pertinent to note that the A-list comedians like Ali Baba, Basorge Taria jnr, Yibokoko, Tee A, Basket Mouth, Teju Baby Face, AY, Owen G, Kofi, among others, have been known as comedy brands who attract huge appearance fees for shows.
There are hundreds of upcoming comedians who are equally good, though they are still struggling for recognition, their performances at Stand Up Nigeria are unique on monthly basis to showcase their talents.
