Star parade as Sola Allyson launches album
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 18:04
Sola Allyson-Obaniyi launched her fourth album Imo’ore, at the Jogor Centre opposite Liberty Stadium Ibadan, recently. The event was crowded with friends, fans, dignitaries and music giants like Mrs. Olukemi Mimiko, wife of the Ondo
State governor, Yinka Ayefele, Kunle Hamilton, Sola’s producer Cobhams Asuquo and many more.
Allyson-Obaniyi’s hit track Eji Owuro, from her debut album is almost synonymous with her name. Eji Owuro was released in 2003 and since then, She has remained dedicated to music and to her fans across the country.
Her new album Imo’ore has taken a new and refreshing tangent. Allyson-Obaniyi collaborated with music maestro, Cobhams Asuquo, who produced three of the five tracks in Imo’ore. The duo’s collaboration of styles gave birth to a masterpiece of worship where international celestial sounds meet homegrown Yoruba gospels.
Her love song Eji Owuro is reinvented in the new album but its’ distinguishing quality remains the use of profound imagery from the Yoruba language to compare the love of God and the love of man. Translated, the chorus means “Love, like morning dew from heaven; love so pure, it drips of peace. No ill intent can mar our love; so love me my lover without deceit.”
In spite of a sale of several million copies of her first three albums, (Eji Owuro –2003,‘Gbeje Fori- 2005, and Ire in 2007) Sola’s music has been the well-kept secret of the South-West Nigeria.
The new album Imo’ore breaks the bubble and engages a new crop of followers in Nigeria and beyond with songs like Mimo and Isinmi.
Imoore is another masterpiece of music by Allyson-Obaniyi.
