DETERMINED to hold what may be the biggest musical festival in Nigeria, the Saka Odunsi-led FUMAN executive members have met with officials of G’ENNIE Leisure Inc. and Golden Apple Marketing
Solutions (GAMS) in Lagos last week. The meeting was attended by the Vice President of FUMAN, Kabiru Kehinde (a.k.a. Baby Barrister) and the General Secretary, Iyanda Ganiyu Composer, while Taiwo Jibola and Joshua Mgbakor stood in for G’ENNIE and GAMS respectively.
It was agreed that preparations towards holding a big musical concert should begin in earnest, while Kabiru assured the planners of full support from FUMAN.
“We know why Naija Fuji Fest has not held, but we are determined to make sure it holds this year as we have agreed with the agencies on some knotty issues”, he told R.
According to the Vice President, his boss, Orobo, who was in London when the meeting took place, had instructed the house, that is FUMAN Secretariat, to “settle matters with G’ENNIE and others” as NFF is one of the projects the president is eager to see activated in his second term.
“It is the desire of Orobo and the house to see Naija Fuji Fest take place and the organisers have proven themselves to be worthy with some notable events both have organised successfully in the country.
“The passion with which both carry out event planning is second to none. They have convinced us beyond doubts that their intention is not only to protect and promote the interest of fuji musicians, but to position fuji music as a top music brand in Nigeria.
The Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O) of GAMS, Mgbakor, described fuji music as the biggest brand of music in Nigeria, “but the most underplayed”. He believes that fuji music is not small, and therefore should be up there.
“NFF will be made an event that fans will look forward to in a matter of years. I know that the least popular fuji musician in Nigeria has not less than 100 fans, imagine the number we are looking at if a body that has over 20,000 members now has an event they can identify with yearly. We are proud to be FUMAN and G’ENNIE’s partner on NFF”, he added.
Mr. Jibola, who would not disclose reasons behind the inactivation of NFF after almost two years, only promised a better music festival when NFF finally takes place.
“Let’s forget about the past, we have the support of FUMAN now that it matters. If Orobo and his representatives do all they have promised in the meeting, be sure fuji lovers will score a first in the history of musical festivals in Nigeria with NFF”, he asserted.
