AN award befitting the status of Nigerian fuji musicians will hold in Ibadan next year. Put together by Alhaji Sola Junaid, the Nigerian-American said the award is to celebrate and showcase the achievements of major actors in the fuji music industry.

“Americans have the GRAMMY, just like our NMA, but they also have awards for country, rock and jazz musicians as well,” he said, hence the noble idea behind International Fuji Music Award.

According to him, “fuji music is hot now, it’s important we appreciate those who have made it so.  Nigerians listen to 90 per cent fuji and juju music overseas, and probably 10 per cent listen to our so-called hip-hop.

“Don’t be deceived, our hip-hop is not popular yet,  at least in United States, but our local music is.  Fuji is not only listened to by Nigerians, but also Brazilians and Cubans.

“We can safely deduce that there are Brazilians and Cubans who sing fuji, we will find them and honour them too,” he promised.

Designed to be a high profile award, those who may not be able to make the event for reasons will be teleconferenced.
The award is in three categories for now, he admits.  “For now, we will have the Best Evergreen Fuji Music Award; The Most Educative Fuji Music Award and The Most Accepted Fuji Music Award.
