Tension in FUMAN as Oyo Gov is fired

TRUE to Saka Orobo’s promise to deal with erring state governors of FUMAN, the national president of the music body has dissolved the Oyo State chapter of the association and has sent Taofeek Omo Owo packing, while Ayinde Majester has taken his place in the executive body.

In a letter dated December 23, 2009, and signed by the General Secretary, the NWC and national president dissolved the cabinet over Omo Owo’s none challant attitude to a retreat organised by FUMAN’s NEC on December 16, 2009.

The state chapter was also accused of disrespecting statutory authority "from above", as well as gross insurburdination to the national authority.

Before his Canada tour sometime in October, Orobo had promised to deal with state officers who did not support its national body following reports that Omo Owo had refused to swear in  duly elected local chairmen of ANTP after elections that took place sometime in August.

Omo Owo, however, said it was not in Saka’s power to unilaterally remove him from office without informing the Exco of the state.

“They said it’s because I have sabotaged their efforts at splitting the Arabambis, and that I pander to K1’s wishes. Truth is I am a member of MIFO Allah, a Muslim group formed by Wasiu about four years ago, but I am not at Wasiu’s beck-n-call.

“We are one in FUMAN, I believe the issue will be treated in due time. On allegation that I attended an event with Wasiu in Ibadan last week, it’s a blatant lie because that day was my son’s graduation as a fashion designer.

“I’m even supposed to be at our meeting now but I lost my wife today and I’m mourning her,” he said.
On Majester’s take-over, he said it was “very temporary because he’s just a caretaker chairman. The exco will look into it, I won’t say anything because Saka is my president. But then, nobody can remove me because we have laws that stipulate the powers of the president, NEC, NWC.”

Notwithstanding, Majester is expected to conduct a fresh election in the state, while he has been empowered to appoint committee members from the various zones in the state to help him with the election.

No date has been fixed for the new election though.
