THE freaky weather in Europe has, ironically, swelled Taye Currency’s purse as football fans trooped his 02 show penultimate Saturday following the abrupt cancellation of football matches in London.
Temperatures reportedly reached -17oC in some parts of Wales as the weather got colder, while the accompanying snow didn’t help matters.
Looking for places to beat the blues, football fans, especially Nigerians and their British friends, headed for several spots that night. The 02 venue was one of such places and it had Currency on stand.
RMT source said “cold and weary football fans” started arriving Taye’s event in multitudes and eventually overfilled the venue.
“Even Taye couldn’t believe his luck. It was like the matches were cancelled for him. Those who wanted to shake the cold off danced to his songs for the few hours he performed. “
Taye’s promoters, Oto Lowo and Ayo Jamiu, are excited that the Nigerian has extended his shows due to demand.
“Taye’s Europe tour this time will go down as one of the most successful embarked upon by any Nigerian in recent time. We are happy to be part of this success,” Jamiu said.
Taye is now set to tour Scotland from where he will return to Nigeria before the end of this month.
