Sensational Nigerian gospel musician, Buchi, was recently cornered in Lagos and he narrated his turning point in life.
The soft spoken musician said that, “I gave my life to Christ on the December 30, 1992 after seeing a church full of young, trendy and in my own opinion, unusually up to date people in Christ Embassy Church, Lagos.
That aroused my curiosity so much that I went back to the church on a week day to look for the pastor; I told them I wanted to see Pastor Chris because I needed to unravel the mystery of so many young people in the church because for me, it is unusual to have many young people in the church.
“So, when I met him, we had a two and a half hour talk; though, I intended it to be a discussion, but it turned out to be a counselling session and thereafter, I gave my life to Christ.
“I don’t see myself as Buchi from the north or Buchi from the west, it is not that I cannot tell you that I was born in Kaduna State to Abia State parents and raised in Lagos, but I want to see myself more as a Nigerian in music.
“In 1987, while I was studying for Masters’ Degree in English at the University of Lagos, my friend, Ras Kimono, invited me over to join him as a DJ in a Reggae Nite Club called the Floating Buka, that was my earliest exposure to professional music and I carried on until I got born again in 1992.”
