altAsafa Powell insists Usain Bolt is not super human - and that he will once again become the world’s fastest man.

Powell flies into England this week to take on three-time former world champion Tyson Gay over 100 m in Gateshead on Saturday.

”I‘m 100 per cent sure my fastest times are still to come,” Mirror.co.uk quoted the Jamaican, 27, who held the world record for three years between 2005 and 2008, as saying on Tuesday.

”Nothing is impossible in this sport. You have to believe you can beat Usain Bolt and better the records he has set - and I do.

”We have one person dominating now, but there‘s no superman in the world.

”Everybody is the same unless they‘re doing something we don‘t know about. If you really believe in yourself and work hard, you can achieve. I am thankful for what Usain has done because it has inspired me.

”Before it was all speculation. Everyone was wondering is 9.6 possible? What about

9.5? Usain has proved it is and people believe it now and believe they too can do it.”

Powell has yet to meet either Bolt or Gay, the two men to finish ahead of him in last summer‘s electrifying World Championship final.

But he clearly believes he is better equipped physically to deal with them than he was in Berlin - a fact underlined by his world leading time this year of 9.82secs in Rome last month.

And Powell is returning to a favourite haunt this weekend, having become the first man to break the 100m world record on British soil with 9.77 in Gateshead four years ago.

”I know what I can do. I should have done it a long time ago, but in the past I relied on natural talent,” added Powell.

”I was pretty much running without training. I‘d train for maybe two months in the entire year, then just go out and compete.

”But this year is different. I‘ve trained every single day. For the first time in the longest while I am healthy and I‘m going to see how fast I can go.”

”Myself and Tyson are clearly going after Usain‘s 9.58 world record but I truly believe that it‘s mine to lose at the moment.

”I know Tyson‘s been injured, so I‘m looking to take advantage of that.”
