ShareFootball enthusiasts in Rivers have commended
President Goodluck Jonathan for reversing the decision to ban Nigerian
football teams from taking part in international tournaments for two
years.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the poor
performance of the national team, the Super Eagles, at the ongoing
World Cup in South Africa, compelled the government to consider
withdrawing from all categories of international football.
But
following government’s change of position, the football enthusiasts
expressed pleasure on the development, noting that the game would have
suffered in the country as a result.
One of the
enthusiasts, Innocent Lebari told NAN on Wednesday in Port Harcourt
that the reversal of the decision was a welcome development.
Lebari
noted that the ban would have caused more damage to the nation’s
football growth and development than the purpose it intended to achieve.
Another football enthusiast, Ogundu Vincent, described Jonathan as a true democrat who was ready to serve the people.
Vincent
said that though it was annoying that the Super Eagles performed poorly
at the ongoing World Cup, it was also a welcome development that the
President rescinded his decision on the ban.
