ShareA former coach of the Super Eagles Bora
Milutinovic has criticised Nigeria‘s decision to change coach before
the World Cup kicked off.
According to him, the decision contributed to the team‘s woeful performance in South Africa.
The
Serbian however hailed the pre-World Cup programme of Ghana, saying
that the Black Stars should be proud of what they achieved at the world
meet.
”Nigeria are very talented on an individual level,
as was proved at the 2008 Olympic Games. However, changing coaches in
such a short time before coming to South Africa affected their
prospects. It‘s not easy to assemble a competitive team, never mind a
settled squad, with such a short space of time in which to work,” the
man that took Nigeria to France‘98 told FIFA.com.
Bora,
who has coached five different countries at the World Cup, then said of
the Black Stars, ”Ghana‘s case was different, and I‘d like to point out
that they had a Serbian coach in Milovan Rajevac. He was able to adapt
quickly and incorporate the talented youngsters that won the U-20 World
Cup. They did a great job, keeping one eye on the future, and only went
out on penalties. It‘s very good news for African football.”
