FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, on Sunday praised
President Goodluck Jonathan for rescinding his two-year ban on the
national teams from international tournaments.
CAF President Issa Haytou also praised Jonathan for reversing the ban.
Speaking
during a meeting with the new leadership of the Nigeria Football
Federation in Johannesburg, South Africa, Blatter said only genuine
leaders, not rulers, listen to the yearnings of their people and act
accordingly.
He said, ”Nigeria is one of the key
components of the football world, and a two-year absence from the game
from this beautiful game by the country would have left a vacuum.
Please, extend my warmest sporting regards to President Goodluck
Jonathan.”
Blatter also promised that FIFA would
co-operate with the Aminu Maigari-led NFF board that was as endorsed at
Friday‘s Extra-Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja. He urged them to
always operate with the statutes of the NFF, adding that FIFA would be
monitoring the situation in Nigerian football.
At another
meeting with the NFF leadership, also in Johannesburg, Hayatou said he
was happy that Jonathan decided to rescind the ban.
He pledged CAF‘s cooperation with the new NFF leadership.
