Ogun lawmaker canvasses state sports commission

ShareThe Chairman, Committee on Youths and Sports of
the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr. Durotolu Bankole, has said the
establishment of emergency sport commissions in states holds the key to
the revival of sports in the country.
Bankole, who spoke
to our correspondent in Abeokuta, contended that the country‘s poor
performances in international sports over the years, especially the
performance of the Super Eagles at the World Cup in South Africa, were a
reflection of the parlous state of the nation‘s sports.
The
lawmaker, representing Yewa South State Constituency in the Assembly,
believes the fortunes of the nation in sports, especially football,
might not improve unless the relevant agencies insist on developing
budding talents at the grass-roots level.
“We need to
wake up in order to redress the backwardness. I believe what we need to
do immediately is to set up emergency sports commissions at state
level, where the activities of the state and local governments would be
coordinated and talents are identified and developed,” he said.
