Falode praises historic Falconets

A member of the media committee of the Confederation of Africa Football, Aisha Falode, on Sunday showered praises on the national U-20 team for picking a ticket to play in the semifinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup taking place in Germany.

The Falconets defeated highly rated USA 4-2 on penalties on Sunday after full and extra-time score stood at 1-1.

It was the first time an African country will make it to the last four stage of the competition.

Falode said she was particularly elated that the team showed so much skill and fighting spirit throughout the encounter.

She said, ”The girls are very good. They fought for every ball and demonstrated high level of understanding.

”These players have all it takes to go places and with this we have hope of a very strong senior team in the near future.

”USA is a strong team in female football and I believe what happened on Sunday is just an example of what we might see in the future with the national female teams.

”We lose some games just because our players look at the big names and now this result will give all our teams the confidence in future competitions. I congratulate the team for doing a good job.”

Falode also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for making a U-turn on government‘s decision to ban football for two years.

”If that decision had stood, we would not be celebrating today,” she said.
