ShareThe Falconets have a tough task ahead of them in their FIFA U-20 Women‘s World Cup game against Colombia on Thursday.
A win for Nigeria will make them the first African team to play in the final of the tournament.
The
Falconets on Sunday made history as the first African team to reach the
semifinal of the event after defeating USA 4-2 on penalities.
Columbia beat Sweden 2-0 to hit the quarterfinals.
Coming
to the tournament for the first time, Colombia qualified from Group A
with four points after recording superior goal advantage over France,
who also have four points.
Nigeria have attended all
editions of the tournament. The Falconets‘ record gives them an edge
over the Columbians, with three quarterfinals appearances in the past.
In
Germany, the Falconets have kept a shrewd approach with only four goals
conceded in regular time and goalkeeper Alaba Jonathan must be feeling
like a hero already for pulling several saves and stopping the Americans
during the penalty shootout.
Nigeria must however repeat
their second half performance against USA when they confront Columbia
today with total dominance that forced the best team in the championship
into defending.
