Delhi 2010: Bio challenges Team Nigeria
Written by Duncan Tuesday, 03 August 2010
ShareThe Minister of Sports/Chairman of the National
Sports Commission Ibrahim Bio has congratulated the national athletics
team on their second position at the Africa Athletics Championships in
Nairobi, Kenya.
Nigeria won eight gold, five silver and
five bronze medals to place second behind hosts Kenya, who won 10 gold,
seven silver and eight bronze medals.
He said, ”I‘m
particularly thrilled by the feat of Blessing Okagbare. Running with
injury is not what many athletes will do. To win three gold in such a
difficult condition is not easy. We are really proud of her.”
Bio
then challenged Okagbare and other athletes that will represent Nigeria
at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games to beat their best in Delhi,
India.
‘‘Apart from what the Federal Government and the
NSC will do for the athletes, personally I have gifts for all the
athletes who win gold in Delhi,” he said.
The minister
assured the athletes and others that will represent Nigeria at the
Commonwealth Games that President Goodluck Jonathan and the NSC would
give them the assistance they need to succeed in India.
