Appiah – Our tactics worked

assistant coach Kwesi Appiah says they successfully employed a tactical game
plan to knock Tunisia out of the Africa Nations Cup.
The
Black Stars needed an extra time opportunistic goal from stand-in captain Andre
Ayew to seal a hard-earned 2-1 victory at the Franceville Stadium.
Ghana
went ahead on ten minutes through John Mensah - his second goal of the tournament
- before Saber Khalifa drew level on 42 minutes with a header.
But
the four-time champions kept their eyes on the ball and a cross from winger
Samuel Inkoom was messed up by goalkeeper Aymen Mathlouthi and with Ayew
lurking inside the box, he pounced to score the winner.
"We
all know Tunisia has got a very good team so we had to plan a real tactical
game, hold them and at the same time rely on counter attacks to break their
defence," Appiah said at the post-match press conference.
"We
knew very well that it was not going to be an easy game so we were not
surprised when it went into extra-time, but the most important thing is that we
get to the next stage."
Ghana
will play Zambia in the first semi final on Wednesday in Bata, Equatorial
Guinea.
