ShareAssistant Inspector General of Police for Zone X1, Mr. Mohammed Yesufu, has vowed to deal with politicians in the zone planning to stock-pile dangerous weapons to fight opponents before, during and after the next general elections in the country.
The AIG gave the warning when he met with Command Commissioners of Police under the Zone which comprises Osun, Oyo, and Ondo states, saying he would no longer tolerate hooliganism andlawlessness from the politicians ."Politicians have a long notice fromnow to begin to think of how to sell themselves and their programmes to the electorate so as to gain acceptance and win elections devoid of rancour and acrimony, hence there would be no need to engage instock-pilling of weapons to confront opponents," he said.
According to him, "as we move towards active politics in preparationfor the 2011 elections , there is the need for politicians to tolerateeach other's opinion and comport themselves in an orderly manner."
He said as law enforcement officers charged with the responsibility of maintenance of law and order, the police are determinedto be an impartial umpire.
Yesufu said the collective stand of the police is also in tandemwith the Federal Government's position and indeed the international community, stressing that the police had already demonstrated this in some elections that had taken place in some parts of thecountry.
