Jonathan Re-affirms Commitment to Vision 2020

President Goodluck Jonathan, has reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to the sustenance and implementation of programmes and policies geared towards achieving the country’s aspiration of being among the top 20 economies in the world by the year 2020.

He stated this yesterday when he received in audience the Coordinator of the Honourary International Investment Council (HIIC), Baroness Linda Chalker at the Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja.Chalker was accompanied to the State House by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bob Dewar.

Jonathan said Government would continue to participate actively in the Council in order to accelerate the attainment of its objectives. He noted that it was high time the deliberations of the HIIC translated to concrete development for the citizenry.
The HIIC is a Presidential Initiative to pool influential international and local investors towards attracting foreign direct investment into the country.

Chalker said she came to condole with Jonathan over the death of his predecessor, Umaru Yar’Adua, and also to congratulate him on his assumption of office as President.
“You have a tough job to do. We will do all we can to make sure you succeed in the objectives that you set out to achieve as a government,” she stated.

She said the forthcoming HIIC meeting slated for 23rd to 24th of June in Abuja will focus on tackling the challenges of the power sector, among other economic issues.
Also speaking, Bob Dewar reiterated the condolences of Queen Elizabeth and the British Government to Nigeria over Yar’Adua’s death.
He said the British Govern-ment looks forward to receiving  Jonathan in London whenever he chooses to visit, adding that Britain is committed to building an excellent relations with Nigeria, and promoting initiatives geared towards achieving good governance, electoral reforms and sustaining the peace, particularly in the Niger Delta region.
