‘IBB’s Ambition in Trouble if Jonathan Runs’

ShareA strong supporter of former military President Ibrahim Babangida and a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Godwin Dabo Adzuana has reviewed the move to draft President Goodluck Jonathan into the presidential race in 2011 and declared that if that happens, Babangida's ambition would be in serious jeopardy.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Dabo said “if that happens, if Jonathan decides to run for Presidency, IBB camp would be in trouble.”According to him, incumbency has its own effect “and we must not ignore the factor.” He said that he would not advise IBB to quit the race if Jonathan was running “but he should be guided by it.”
He however pleaded with Jonathan to arrive at a decision that would be in the interest of peace and harmony in the country. “I will advice Jonathan camp to look at the pros and cons before delving into it, they should do what is right for Nigeria.”
He said that the decision of PDP to zone power was to assuage various political interests especially the south over the June 12, 1993 annulled presidential poll pointing out that at the time of taking the zoning arrangement decision, certain intervening developments like the emergence of Jonathan was not envisaged.
Dabo who has been an advocate of northern interest in the nation's polity said that the geo-political north at the moment was in disarray, “with no common front and what you have is segmented political leadership.”
He added: “As of now, the north is divided, those keeping quiet are more than those talking.”
He said that the north should put its house in order and try to field competent and capable persons. “ North has a lot of competent and capable Nigerians between 50 to 60 years who can drammatically emerge as leader of Nigeria.
The Benue born radical also pleaded with those he called Babangida phobists to forgive him and allow Nigerians decide his faith stressing that while some Nigerians does not want to see Babangida become Nigerian President again, a lot more others believe that he is the only person with answers to numerous Nigerian problems.
“ I want to make passionate appeal to northerners and Nigerians to forgive Babangida so that Nigeria can move forward”
Above all chief Dabo said “we must not under estimate the power of God in Jonathan's emergence. God has already decided who is going to be our President and he knows who it would be in 2011”
