2011: First Lady Rallies S’East Women for Husband

ShareFirst Lady Dame Patience Jonathan will on Friday this week hold a rally for women drawn from the five states of the South-east zone to drum up support for her husband. Though organisers of the rally which is billed to take place at the Dan Anyiam stadium, Owerri, Imo state, are silent on the political undertone of the event, informed sources said that it is intended to mobilise support for President Goodluck Jonathan. A press release signed by the South-east Zonal Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee for the rally, Hon. Ali Odefa, noted that the event is being organised by South-east PDP women. This is being done, bearing in mind that “women contribute a greater percentage of the electorate and also to further awaken their political consciousness and participation,” he said. The statement also noted that “During her visit, the first lady will have dinner with the top class business community.” “This epoch making event further buttresses the gender friendly policies of PDP as a party and the Federal Government,” the release stated. The First Lady had last week visited Anambra State for two days. While there, she commissioned some projects completed by the Governor Peter Obi administration. She also used the opportunity to formally launch her pet-project in the state.
According to him, the zonal rally is targeted at bringing the women of the zone together to rub minds and exchange ideas in other to achieve further electoral successes.
The event is expected to attract women in both the urban and rural areas of the zone.
