THE Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation has fixed November 27 to 30 for the 2010 Abuja Carnival.
In a press statement signed by Lukcy Onoriode George, Head of Media, 2010 Abuja Carnival Organising Committee, headed by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Naitonal Orientation, Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, the ministry said it had approved the aforementioned date for this year’s carnival tagged ‘Jubilee Edition.’
With the approval of the festival date, George disclosed that the carnival committee would kick off its campaign for a successful event in November.
In an effort to have a rich and world-class carnival, the committee has also introduced a number of programmes that will enhance the image, popularity and marketability of the carnival in the future.
New initiatives such as a pre-carnival concert that would be staged at the famous Eagle’s Square in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on July 31, and a ‘Sponsor’s Forum’on August 5, to say ‘thank you’ to previous corporate and individual sponsors of the 2009 edition, as well as the introduction of Miss Abuja Cultural Carnival, will debut next year.
Members of the committee are drawn from the ministry, universities and other related organisations and charged with the responsibility of packaging a worldclass carnival to celebrate Nigeria’s 50th anniversary.
Members of the committee are Mohammed, as chairman, permament secretary of the ministry, Professor Ojo Bakare, artistic director, George Ufot, Director of Culture and Representative/Liaison, Tukur Mohammed, Manager, Finance and Accounts, who is also the Director of Finance and Account in the ministry and Ms. Grace Isu Gekpe, Manager Administration, an assistant director in the ministry.
