Ekimogun 2010: Propelling Ondo Kingdom growth

IT was with unstinted joy that the people of the Ondo Kingdom, Ondo State rolled out the drums of this year's celebration of the community socio-cultural festival, Ekimogun Day.
Making this year's edition memorable was it's coincidence with the celebration of the 500 years of existence of the Osemawe dynasty, hence, it converged the sons and daughters of the kingdom, as well as well-wishers to the kingdom for the great celebration.
Promoting the culture of the community and despising the heat of the season, difference clubs, groups, association and well-wishers, among other participants in the event were clad in Aso Oke.
As if it was rehearsed, the people present, at the Oba Adesanoye Civic Centre, Ondo, for the 23rd edition of the festival last Saturday, stood to their feet, encoring "Abaiye ooo," to acknowledge the arrival the Osemawe and paramount ruler of Ondo Kingdom, His Majesty, Dr Victor Adesimbo Kilanko, Jilo III, who was also clad in aso oke, walking majestically into the venue of the event.
While the joy, pomp and glitz were being heightened, the governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, a son of the soil, and his entourage arrived, kickstarting the event.
The governor in his address lauded the organisers of the event, which he described as propellant to the development of the kingdom, the state and the nation, while describing the community as elegant in culture, arts, drumming and paying homage, among others.
Mimiko, while lauding the vision of the Osemawe to turn the kingdom to make the kingdom and enviable city by 2015, assured the community of necessary support to enhance the actualisation of the dream.
He enjoined the people of the community to further promote peace and unity in the kingdom. This, he said, will further propel development in the kingdom and the state, making them cynosure of all eyes.
The Osemawe in his speech lauded the patriotic efforts of the Ondo clubs, association, corporate bodies and private organisations that have been propelling the Ekimogun Day in a dynamic and positive way.
He appealed to them to further support the development of the kingdom in order to leave a legacy that the upcoming generation can be proud of.
Dr Kilanko saying that is year edition of the event was meant to raise fund for the social uplifting of the people in the community called on the people of the kingdom, home & abroad, to come home and lend their hand in support of the vision 2015 to accelerate the consummation of the vision.
Chairman, Ondo Development Committee, Chief Gbenga Akinnawo, in a brief chat with TTH said the event has continually Justified of the motivation behind its establishment.
Akinnawo enlightened that the event was designed to converge the sons and daughters of the kingdom, home and abroad, to brainstorm on how to move the community forward. He added that the event is also being used to raise money to develop the community and support what the state government is doing.
